Initial project requirements:

Custom Cars required a practical and long-lasting solution to separate work zones within their automotive workshop. The objective was to contain sparks and UV exposure during welding, without restricting access or compromising on durability.

The client specifically requested that each curtain be installed without a track system and pulled tight between structural columns. During the consultation, they also enquired about adding a bottom chain pocket to maintain the curtain’s shape and prevent movement.

Flexshield’s solution had to meet Australian safety standards, deliver visual impact, and offer a long service life – all while keeping the install process straightforward for our client.

Flexshield solution:

The Flexshield team supplied five WeldflexTM PVC sheet curtains, all 4000mm high, with widths to suit five individual bays:

  1. Curtain A – 6100mm wide
  2. Curtain B – 5400mm wide
  3. Curtain C – 4900mm wide
  4. Curtain D – 6100mm wide
  5. Curtain E – 6100mm wide

 

Each curtain was manufactured from 1 mm-thick red WeldflexTM PVC sheet, a heavy-duty material purpose-built for welding protection. Key features included:

  1. Stainless steel eyelets positioned at 300mm centres along the top edge for secure fixing between columns
  2. Chain pocket along the bottom edge (added by customer request) for improved stability and tension
  3. Reinforced top edge to maintain strength under tension
  4. Compliant with AS/NZS 3957:2014, ensuring safe use in welding environments
  5. KANGA certified with a 10-year material warranty
  6. UV stabilised for longevity in Australian workshop conditions

 

The curtains were supplied ready to install, and no tracking system was required.
