Prevent employee hearing damage and costly site shutdowns
Workers on construction sites are often subject to continuously loud and noisy environments and, by law, must be protected.
The National Code of Practice for Noise Management stipulates that worker exposure must be limited to noise no greater than 85 dB for more than 8 hours per day/shift. Nor can workers be exposed to peak noise that is louder than 140 dB.
Noise from construction sites not only impacts workers, but can also affect neighbouring residences and businesses. It’s estimated that in Australia, approximately 400,000 people are disturbed by construction noise annually.
The main noise concerns from construction include:
- Early starts and long days
- Loud radios
- Noisy plant and machinery, and
- Power tools, hammering, sawing, and the like.
Prioritising noise control will assist you in avoiding costly hearing damage to your employees and site shutdowns due to complaints.
