Flexshield Sonic Acoustic Attenuators for Superior Noise Control Solution
A Sonic Acoustic Attenuator is used to reduce noise in various industrial environments. A Sonic Acoustic Attenuator may be used in the following scenarios:
- Reduce noise from machinery and equipment
- Comply with OHS regulations
- Mitigate noise from cooling systems and services in data centres
- Control sound levels in tunnels and stations
- Protect nearby residential areas and sensitive environments from excessive noise
Sonic Acoustic Attenuator Performance
- Noise reduction capabilities from 10 dB(A) to 50 dB(A)
- Minimal pressure loss
- High-temperature applications – suitable for high-temperature environments where traditional materials might degrade
- Easy integration into duct systems
- Podded or unpodded options.
Sonic Acoustic Attenuator Construction
These attenuators are designed to withstand the demanding Australian environment. They reduce noise along air paths without hindering airflow and maintain minimal pressure drop.
Our Sonic Acoustic Attenuators are built to be durable and made from materials such as galvanised steel or aluminium. They feature internal linings and acoustic materials like fibreglass or foam to improve noise reduction.
Cylindrical silencers are important for airflow through circular pipes. Standard silencers allow air to flow straight through, reducing average noise with minimal pressure drop. Podded cylindrical silencers offer greater noise reduction but may increase pressure drop.
The silencers’ effectiveness depends on their degree of closure and length.
Circular silencers are suitable for suction pipelines, while rectangular acoustic attenuators are ideal for large-scale HVAC systems with rectangular air channels for optimal performance.
Podded Cylindrical Silencer
A podded cylindrical silencer is a noise control device primarily used in HVAC systems to reduce airflow-generated noise. The “podded” and “cylindrical” aspects refer to its shape and design characteristics.
Cylindrical Shape: Efficient airflow and easy integration into duct systems.
Podded Design: An internal pod enhances noise reduction by disrupting sound waves and increasing reflection and absorption.
Sound Attenuation: Absorbs sound waves and reduces their transmission through ductwork, using sound-absorbing materials and a design that creates multiple pathways for sound waves, causing them to lose energy.
Unpodded Sonic Acoustic Attenuator
An unpodded acoustic attenuator, or unlined or unlagged attenuator, reduces noise levels in ducted air systems without using traditional sound-absorbing materials like fibreglass or foam linings. Lack of internal padding uses alternative methods such as airflow direction changes, turbulence, or specially designed internal geometries to attenuate noise. These are typically constructed from metals like galvanised steel or aluminium, with perforated metal surfaces or complex internal pathways. The airflow design creates paths that reduce noise through reflection, diffusion, and interferences using baffles, labyrinthine paths, or other structures.
