Noise and safety challenges solved by engineered acoustic enclosure

PROJECT:

Sonic System V100 Acoustic Enclosure for Westrac Arc Sprayer

INDUSTRY TYPE:

Manufacturing / Engineering

CLIENT:

Apex Engineering Technology

LOCATION:

New South Wales

Initial project requirements:

Needing to manage noise from a Westrac arc spray unit, Apex Engineering Technology determined the need for an acoustic enclosure to deliver strong acoustic performance, protect surrounding staff from airborne particles and sparks, and maintain compliance with workplace safety standards.

The enclosure would also need to be supplied in kit form for streamlined installation by Apex’s internal team, minimising site disruption and installation time.

Flexshield solution:

The Flexshield team supplied a fully engineered Sonic System V100 acoustic enclosure designed for heavy-duty industrial use. Delivered in kit form, the system offered immediate benefits in terms of noise reduction, safe operation, and ease of installation.

Key specifications

  1. Total structure:
    • 6000mm long x 4250mm (right side)
    • 3050mm (left side)
    • 1697mm angled wall + 4800mm return
    • 4000mm high
  1. Roofed design using Sonic System V100 acoustic panels throughout
  2. Panels pre-coated in Dulux Surfmist for a clean, corrosion-resistant finish

Access and safety features

  1. Sonic Acoustic double door:
    • 3350mm W x 2500mm H
    • Each leaf is fitted with a 900mm x 450mm aperture
  1. Single door:
    • 950mm W x 2100mm H with 750mm x 300mm aperture

Structural benefits

  • Framed with RHS steel posts and head rails, powder coated in Basalt Grey
  • Includes all necessary flashing and capping channels
  • Supplied with a complete set of fixings and hardware
  • Delivered flat-packed in kit form for ease of handling and efficient installation

Results achieved:

The completed purpose-built enclosure addresses multiple challenges simultaneously. By containing hazardous noise and activity inside a fully enclosed structure, Apex Engineering has improved operator safety and reduced noise impact on surrounding workers.

Key benefits:

  1. Noise control: The V100 acoustic panels help meet EPA and internal hearing protection standards
  2. Improved safety: Fully enclosed space with spark-resistant viewing apertures keeps the work visible while containing risk
  3. Faster installation: Supplied in kit form, the enclosure required no on-site fabrication
  4. Built to last: All components selected for durability in a high-use, high-impact environment
  5. Professional finish: Powder-coated framework and pre-coated panels ensure a clean, consistent appearance
