Like Flexshield, Toowoomba’s FKG Group are expanding their operations from the region to a national reach.
As their website states, “FKG Group’s Construction team is rapidly expanding its roots in Queensland to deliver projects throughout Australia. They deliver innovative projects across all market sectors, ranging from minor refurbishments through to major capital works, for clients in both the private and public sectors. They work under all delivery methods (design and construct, construct-only, managing contractor) and tailor their delivery approach to suit each unique requirement”.
FKG Group engaged Flexshield to provide WeldflexTM strip curtains for a new 7500m2 facility in Jilalan in Queensland. The project is part of a $36M upgrade to the Jilalan railyard, which provides maintenance and service to the trains that haul coal on the Goonyella coal supply chain. Thermal and coking coal from 18 mines in the Bowen Basin is transported along the Goonyella coal supply chain to two adjacent export terminals.
The upgrade to the Jilalan railyard is an important part of keeping Australia moving. Any interruption to services due to lack of maintenance could mean the loss of millions of dollars.
As part of the upgrade, six bays needed heavy-duty curtains to protect workers from activities such as welding and grinding which are carried out in the bays
Flexshield has extensive experience in designing solutions that require WeldflexTM strip curtains. The difference with these curtains is their split design. Mounting the curtains on a headrail with a tab pull caters for a variety of uses, including half-open bays and completely open bays for machinery maintenance.
For the FKG Group project, Flexshield mounted WeldflexTM strip curtains on six bays with a headrail mount which allows for the curtains to be pulled across with tab pulls. Each opening has two strip curtains, which allows either curtain to slide left or right to provide a clear opening for large items.
Results
FKG Group were so impressed with the results that they displayed part of the solution on their LinkedIn page. In response, Candice Smith, Facilities Supervisor for Cushman & Wakefield, commented, “Those rail-guided plastic curtains are going to be a gamechanger for so many different purposes. Love the whole facility – great shots!”
