Construction noise control

Practical noise control products for construction projects

Construction sites are noisy. Concrete cutting, jackhammering, piling, generators, compressors and heavy equipment generate high noise levels that affect neighbouring properties, require active management under construction noise management plans and can delay or restrict working hours if complaints are received.

Flexshield supplies acoustic products for construction projects across Australia, from portable curtains and quilts for temporary work-zone containment to engineered noise walls for more permanent requirements.

Managing construction noise on active sites

Construction noise is intermittent, unpredictable and distributed across the site. The type of noise changes as the project progresses from demolition and earthworks through to structural and fit-out stages. Products that work well for one phase may not suit another.

The most practical approach is usually a combination of products: re-locatable acoustic curtains and quilts for work-zone containment, acoustic barriers for perimeter management, and acoustic enclosures for stationary plant like generators and compressors. Flexibility matters as much as attenuation performance on an active site.

For night works and projects in sensitive locations, the requirements are more demanding. Standard site hoarding provides minimal acoustic benefit. Products designed and tested to perform acoustically make a measurable difference to the noise levels reaching neighbouring receivers.

Common construction noise sources

Concrete cutting and drilling, jackhammering and piling, generators and compressors, mobile plant, demolition works, HVAC installation equipment and construction machinery are the most significant contributors on most construction sites.

Construction acoustic products

Sonic acoustic curtains: Flexshield manufactures heavy-duty acoustic curtains designed for temporary site noise management. Curtains can be suspended from scaffolding, hung on hoarding or used to wrap noisy work areas. They are relocatable and reusable across multiple projects and stages.

Sonic acoustic quilts: Where a lighter, more flexible product is needed, acoustic quilts provide noise attenuation in a compact, easy-to-handle format. Suitable for wrapping equipment, lining screens or covering temporary hoarding at the site boundary.

Sonic acoustic enclosures for plant: Stationary generators and compressors on construction sites benefit from enclosures that reduce both exhaust and mechanical noise. Flexshield manufactures portable and permanent acoustic enclosures for construction plant in configurations suited to site conditions.

Sonic acoustic barriers and noise walls: For projects requiring formal acoustic screening, modular noise walls can be installed at the site boundary or around specific work areas. Panels are designed for outdoor exposure and can be configured to a height depending on the attenuation target.

Our work

Why it matters

Effective construction noise management reduces the risk of work order restrictions, complaints from neighbours and regulatory intervention. On projects near hospitals, schools or residential areas, having the right products in place from the start of the job is considerably easier than responding after a complaint has been received.

Applications

Products are supplied to commercial construction, civil projects, infrastructure works, hospital upgrades, school projects, residential developments, night works and CBD projects across Australia.
