SonicClear PVC strip curtains provide flexible separation between workshop activities while maintaining visibility across practical teaching areas. The clear PVC strips help contain sparks, dust and debris generated by grinding and fabrication activities, supporting workshop organisation and teacher supervision.
In modern Trade Training Centres, SonicClear PVC strip curtains can also be used around suitable CNC machining and fabrication areas to help separate equipment from adjacent teaching spaces. They can provide a flexible barrier where access and visibility are required, subject to the machine manufacturer’s guarding requirements and the project’s risk assessment.
The curtains can be configured for individual grinding stations, workshop openings or Complete acoustic grinding bays. Strip thickness, width, overlap and mounting arrangements can be selected to suit the application, access requirements and acoustic design.
Independent laboratory testing provides acoustic performance data for selected SonicClear configurations. These results can assist project teams when assessing noise separation requirements, although installed performance will depend on the complete arrangement, including openings, overlaps, surrounding construction and installation details.
Optional Configuration Options
Every Trade Training Centre is different. SonicClear PVC strip curtains can be configured around the workshop layout, equipment access and teaching requirements rather than supplied as a fixed package. Flexshield can assist with selecting the appropriate material and mounting arrangement for new workshops, upgrades and replacement projects.
SonicClear PVC strip curtains are supported by independent acoustic testing and technical documentation for specified configurations.
The supplied reports record laboratory testing conducted by RMIT University’s Applied Acoustics Laboratory under NATA accreditation number 1421. Testing was carried out in accordance with AS 1191-2002, with weighted sound reduction ratings determined in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 717.1-2004.
The tested configurations include a 3mm curtain with 300mm wide strips and 100mm overlaps, and a 4 mm curtain with 400mm wide strips and 120 mm overlaps. Both achieved a weighted sound reduction index of Rw 19 under the reported laboratory conditions.
Supporting documentation is available to assist specification and procurement, including applicable acoustic test reports, product data sheets, chemical-resistance information and installation documentation. Relevant compliance requirements should be confirmed for the selected product and application.

Chemical resistance
Flexshield’s chemical-resistance reference provides ratings for SonicClear PVC exposed to a range of chemicals, including selected oils, lubricants, cleaning agents, acids and alkalis. The ratings vary by chemical and concentration, and the reference does not include the track.
Project teams should confirm compatibility with any coolants, cutting fluids, cleaning products or other chemicals used in the workshop before specifying the curtain material.
Detailed NATA-accredited acoustic test reports, product data sheets and supporting technical documentation are available on request.

SonicClear strip curtains can be used to separate grinding and fabrication activities, provide access to designated work areas and support visibility across the workshop. They can also be considered for suitable CNC machining applications where a flexible barrier is required. The appropriate configuration depends on the equipment, workshop layout and project requirements.
SonicClear strip curtains can help separate suitable CNC machining areas and contain some debris, but they should not be assumed to replace the machine manufacturer’s required guarding or interlocked protective devices. Curtain selection should be based on the machine’s operating conditions, foreseeable hazards and the project’s risk assessment. Flexshield can assist with selecting a suitable curtain configuration once these requirements are established.
The clear PVC material allows teachers to maintain visibility into designated grinding and fabrication areas while providing a physical separation between activities. The flexible strips also allow access without requiring a fixed door. Visibility and access requirements should be considered alongside the workshop layout and equipment operating conditions.
The supplied NATA-accredited laboratory reports record Rw 19 for a 3mm curtain with 300mm wide strips and 100 mm overlaps, and Rw 19 for a 4mm curtain with 400mm wide strips and 120mm overlaps. A separate 2 mm panel curtain configuration achieved Rw 17. These are laboratory ratings for the tested assemblies, not guaranteed noise reductions for every installation. Flexshield can provide the relevant reports to assist with specification.
Project teams should identify the intended application, installation location, curtain dimensions, strip width and thickness, overlap requirements and quantity. Mounting arrangements and any exposure to coolants, cutting fluids or cleaning chemicals should also be considered. The specification schedule allows you to indicate whether the curtains are required as standalone products or as part of a Complete acoustic grinding bay, along with installation preferences. Flexshield can provide product selection advice and supporting technical documentation.
