The primary role of HMAS Cerberus has always been Navy personnel training. With the establishment of four tri-service schools over the last 13 years, this role has extended to training Army, Navy and Air Force personnel.
Despite the change, the charm of HMAS Cerberus remains. It’s historical presence, heritage buildings, chapels, sports facilities and gardens create a pleasant training environment.
It came as a shock to personnel when new HVAC equipment disrupted the pleasant training environment – the HVAC equipment was close to personnel accommodation and offices.
The noise the equipment emitted disrupted the rest/sleep of personnel recovering from high-intensity training and became a distraction to office personnel.
The solution for HMAS Cerberus needed to ensure that it did not detract from the historical features of the buildings while still ensuring adequate noise reduction.
The final solution for HMAS Cerberus was a Sonic Louvre enclosure, including frames and a gate to enclose the HVAC area. To reduce disruption to daily routines and to lessen installation time, the acoustic louvres were pre-assembled into modular sections before leaving the factory.
The Sonic System Acoustic Louvres were custom coated in Manor Red to match the décor of the existing historical buildings.
Flexshield designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the acoustic louvre solution. The installation of the louvres allowed the HVAC contractors to commission final testing and close off the project.
The outcome of the project creates a more restful space for personnel – the noise reduction reduced noise-related distractions for the office. Not only does the acoustic louvre enclosure reduce the noise from the HVAC equipment, but it is also visually pleasing and does not detract from the charm of HMAS Cerberus.
A representative from HMAS Cerberus stated:
“We are delighted with the installed product. I would happily use/recommend Flexshield in the future.”
