Here is what to expect when you first reach out to Flexshield

Planning a welding bay fitout can feel like a large undertaking. There are safety requirements to consider, workflow challenges to solve, and different teaching or production needs across every facility.

But getting started is usually much simpler than people expect.

At Flexshield, most welding bay projects begin with a phone call or an email. No complicated forms. No pressure. Just a conversation about what you are trying to achieve.

Whether you are upgrading an ageing training space, replacing worn curtains, improving noise control, or planning a new workshop layout from scratch, our team makes the process straightforward from the beginning.

You do not need all the answers before reaching out. That is what we are here for.

Our team works with schools, TAFEs, universities, fabrication workshops, manufacturing facilities, and industrial sites across Australia, helping create welding environments that are safer, quieter, and built around the way people actually work.

It starts with a conversation

The first discussion is usually about getting a feel for your space.

We will ask a few practical questions so we can get a clear picture of your requirements, including:

  • What the bays are used for
  • Whether the space is for welding, grinding, CNC work, fabrication, or mixed trades
  • If you are replacing existing materials or planning a new fitout
  • How many bays you need
  • What the current layout looks like
  • Whether there are existing extraction systems, workbenches, or access requirements

At this stage, photos are incredibly helpful.

A few images taken on your phone can tell us a lot about the space, including access points, ceiling heights, workflow challenges, and the condition of existing space.

You do not need detailed drawings or technical documentation to begin the conversation.

Every facility works differently

No two training workshops or fabrication areas operate exactly the same way.

Some education facilities need bays that support multiple trade disciplines throughout the day. Others need dedicated welding areas with integrated extraction and acoustic separation. Industrial facilities may need mobile configurations that can adapt to changing projects or production demands.

That is why we spend time learning how the space is actually used before recommending products or layouts.

For some customers, a straightforward upgrade using WeldflexTM strip curtains or mobile screens is the right approach. Others require complete acoustic welding bays using Sonic System acoustic modular panels, extraction integration, flooring systems, and custom access solutions.

The goal is to guide you toward something that fits your environment, your workflow, and your budget. Not to overcomplicate it.

Working through the details

Once we have the basics, we can start working through the finer details of the project.

That may include:

  • Bay dimensions and spacing
  • Curtain configurations
  • Noise reduction requirements
  • Supervision visibility
  • Student or staff movement
  • Extraction requirements
  • Flooring options
  • Access points and swing doors
  • Future expansion plans

Some customers arrive knowing exactly what they want. Others simply know the current setup is no longer working.

Both are completely fine.

Our role is to make the process easier by asking the right questions and helping identify practical options early in the project.

Site assessments come later

A full site assessment is important for larger or more complex projects, but it does not need to happen on day one.

The first step is simply starting the conversation.

Once we have a clear picture of the project scope, we can work out whether a site visit, measurements, drawings, or further technical discussions are required.

For many customers, getting started is as simple as picking up the phone or sending through a few photos.

Experience in welding bay environments

One of the advantages of working with Flexshield is that this territory is familiar to us.

We work in welding bays, training facilities, acoustic separation environments, flash protection applications, extraction integration projects, and industrial workshop builds every day. That experience means we can ask the right questions quickly, spot potential issues early, and guide the project without unnecessary back and forth.

Instead of navigating the planning process alone, you are working alongside a team that understands what these environments actually look like and what they require.

Ready to get started

If you are considering new welding bays, upgrading an existing space, or improving safety and noise control in your workshop, the easiest thing to do is start the conversation.

Give the Flexshield team a call or send us an email. We will ask a few questions, review some photos, and point you in the right direction.

From there, we can support the project as far as you need.

We’ll make sure it’s built right from the start. Contact Flexshield on 1300 799 969 or get in touch online.
