Gas and diesel engines are high-intensity noise sources that typically require engineered enclosures to meet EPA limits and occupational noise standards. The challenge is not simply attenuation. Enclosures for engines and generator sets must manage ventilation, heat, maintenance access, and, in many cases, exhaust routing.

Flexshield designs and manufactures custom acoustic enclosures for gas and diesel engines, generator sets and associated plant. Every enclosure is engineered to the equipment dimensions, the ventilation requirements and the target noise reduction.

Engineered from the start

Flexshield’s approach to enclosure design starts with the equipment and the acoustic requirement. The enclosure configuration, panel specification, ventilation system and access provisions are all determined by the specific installation. There are no generic, off-the-shelf designs. Every product is engineered for the project.

Panel acoustic performance is established through NATA-accredited laboratory testing. The enclosure design accounts for flanking paths, ventilation openings and access doors to ensure the installed performance matches the target. Ventilation attenuators and acoustic louvres are integrated where airflow requirements demand it.

Custom panel configurations and heights, integrated ventilation with managed pressure-drop, access doors and removable maintenance panels, acoustic seals on all openings, weather-resistant external finishes, powder-coated steel construction, and designs suitable for indoor and outdoor installation.

Panel options

Sonic System acoustic modular panels

Sonic System acoustic modular panels form the structural and acoustic core of Flexshield enclosures. Panel selection is based on the required Rw performance. V50 panels achieve Rw 31dB with NRC 1.00. V100 panels achieve Rw 37dB with NRC 1.10. V100SP panels achieve Rw 45dB with NRC 0.90 for higher-specification applications. All panels carry a fire rating of -/120/-.

Sonic Access acoustic doors

Access to enclosed equipment is provided through Sonic Access acoustic doors, available in single-leaf (Rw 46dB) and double-leaf (Rw 45dB) configurations. High-performance doors rated to Rw 52dB are available for applications where the enclosure demands the highest acoustic performance.

Sonic Series acoustic louvres

Ventilation openings in generator and engine enclosures are fitted with Sonic Series acoustic louvres. The Louvre selection is based on the required free area, airflow velocity, and target acoustic attenuation. Multiple configurations are available from Rw 18dB through to Rw 33dB.
