Construction site noise containment

Mobile noise containment products for construction sites

Containing noise on a construction site is rarely straightforward. Work zones change daily, noise sources move around the site, and the most effective placement for acoustic products today may be irrelevant by the end of the week.

Flexshield manufactures mobile and modular acoustic products designed specifically for active construction sites. Products are built to be fast to install, easy to reposition and capable of performing reliably throughout the project.

What site noise containment actually requires

Construction site noise management plans typically identify specific mitigation measures for high-noise activities. Those measures are only effective if the products can be implemented in time, placed where they need to be and maintained in position throughout the relevant works.

Standard hoarding offers minimal acoustic benefit. Generic barriers installed without regard for the noise path do not perform as expected. Products need to be placed on the direct noise path between the source and the most affected receiver, at adequate height, with appropriate acoustic mass and absorption.

For night works, confined sites, hospital proximity zones and school interface projects, the requirements are more demanding, and the tolerance for failure is lower.

Products for construction site noise containment

Sonic acoustic curtains: Flexshield’s heavy-duty acoustic curtains are designed for construction site use. They can be hung from scaffolding, rigged to hoarding or suspended from temporary frames. Multiple curtain widths and heights are available, and curtains can be joined to cover larger openings. Available in configurations suited to standard and high-performance applications.

Sonic acoustic quilts: Lighter and more flexible than curtains, acoustic quilts are suited to wrapping equipment, covering gaps and lining hoarding panels. Easy to handle on a busy site and quick to reposition as work progresses.

Mobile acoustic enclosures: For fixed noise sources such as generators and compressors, mobile acoustic enclosures significantly reduce the noise contribution from these items. Enclosures are designed with ventilation and access provisions to allow equipment operation and maintenance.

Modular acoustic barriers: Where a more structured barrier is required around a noisy work zone or at the site boundary, modular acoustic panels can be assembled quickly and reconfigured as work progresses through project stages.
